Legrand Launches First Dedicated Training Institute in Maharashtra at Thane to Boost Industry-Ready Skills

Group Legrand India inaugurated its first Legrand Institute for Training & Education in Thane, Maharashtra, aimed at enhancing industry-ready technical skills. The initiative, attended by top government officials, will train over 1,000 learners annually through free, practical programs focused on electrical and allied technologies and employability enhancement.

The Group Legrand India today formally inaugurated the Legrand Institute for Training & Education in Thane, marking the launch of its first dedicated training centre in the state of Maharashtra. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Honorable Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, as the Chief Guest, alongside the Minister of Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Government of Maharashtra, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, and Agnès Silva, Deputy Consul of France in Mumbai.

The establishment of the institute represents a strategic step under Group Legrand India’s social commitment toward skill development and youth empowerment, with a focused objective of strengthening industry-ready technical talent and improving employability across the electrical and allied technology sectors.

Developed in collaboration with SkillSonics, an NSDC-accredited implementation and knowledge partner, the facility spans 8,000 square feet and has been designed as a world-class standalone training centre. It will deliver industry-oriented technical training for Industrial Training Institute students, diploma and engineering students, technicians, and electricians. The programs will be offered completely free of cost, with strong emphasis on practical learning, industry exposure, and employability enhancement aligned with evolving technological and market requirements.

The initiative is projected to train and upskill more than 1,000 students and electricians annually, thereby strengthening the pipeline of skilled manpower for India’s expanding infrastructure, energy, and electrical ecosystem. It also reinforces Group Legrand India’s broader corporate social responsibility framework, which is structured around five key pillars: education, healthcare, environment, skill development, and disaster relief, implemented through impactful community interventions across the country.

Speaking at the inauguration, Tony Berland, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Group Legrand India, stated that the launch of the Thane training centre marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey of empowering youth through skill development and enhancing employability. He emphasized that the initiative aims to provide accessible, high-quality technical education, equipping learners with future-ready capabilities while contributing meaningfully to India’s skilled workforce development.

Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, stated that Maharashtra has been actively strengthening skill development initiatives and employment opportunities for youth through industry partnerships and practical learning models. He noted that the Legrand Institute for Training & Education aligns with the state’s vision of building a future-ready workforce and will contribute significantly to Maharashtra’s broader skill development and industrial growth objectives.

Abida Aneez, Vice President for Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability at Group Legrand India, highlighted that the institute has been developed as a first-of-its-kind advanced technical training facility equipped with modern laboratories and the latest electrical and uninterruptible power supply technologies. She further stated that the customized curriculum, jointly designed by Legrand subject matter experts and SkillSonics technical specialists, aims to equip participants with practical skills aligned with current and future technological demands.
